Gargoyles & Ghosts & Goblins & Ghouls in the Spookiest Retro Series ~~~ Marquee Episode 40

We were looking for a game series to coincide with both Halloween 2025 and our Marquee 40th episode. As you may know, every 10 episodes we do a special marquee version where we explore a series across retro consoles. For this 4th marquee we wanted to capture a series that was familiar but at the same time introduce something new to you, our audience. We decided to go with this classic arcade run-and-gun series which ate many quarters in the 80s, and explore a spinoff starring one of our favorite characters… The Red Arremer known as Firebrand.

Firebrand starts as a kind of minor mini-boss in the first game, who kind of just becomes more of a difficult enemy as the game progresses. He’s not even named in his “first game” since he’s such a minor enemy. It’s only in the follow up that he’s known as Firebrand, incorrectly colored green on the box art for the Game Boy, and develops his own set of abilities. Capcom considered these somewhat of a failure in the moment, even his now praised appearance on SNES.

We try them all, and you can even see us (cheat to) beat Ghosts ‘N Goblins. So celebrate some retro cartridge games for Halloween with us! Try not to get too freaked out!
