Try this viral fish fry recipe that’s taking Mangalore kitchens by storm.
Crispy on the outside, juicy inside — this Pomfret Fish Fry is made in a simple and instant way, perfect for beginners or seafood lovers.
Authentic Mangalorean flavors made quick and easy a must-try coastal favorite.
Ingredients:
1 medium onion, finely chopped
8–10 garlic cloves, chopped
1 inch ginger, chopped
3 green chillies, slit or chopped
Few curry leaves
1 lime-sized tamarind, soaked in warm water
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
2 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp cumin powder
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Fish of your choice (Pomfret, Mackerel, or any firm fish)
Method:
1️⃣ Take a pan and add some oil.
2️⃣ Add all the spice powders along with salt — do not turn on the flame yet.
3️⃣ Mix everything well in the oil first so the masala combines evenly.
4️⃣ Now turn on the flame on low heat and let the masala start to cook and boil gently.
5️⃣ Add the chopped shindhap (onion, garlic, ginger, green chilli mixture) and fry on low heat till the masala releases oil from the sides.
6️⃣ Next, add the tamarind water and adjust the salt.
7️⃣ Allow it to boil on low flame.
8️⃣ Once the masala thickens, add the fish and let it cook for about 3 minutes on each side.
9️⃣ Your instant fish fry is ready — serve hot and enjoy the rich Mangalorean flavor! 😋
