Join The Revd Canon Dr Alison Joyce, Rector of St Bride's, and St Bride's Choir for this week's reflection in words and music.
Tomás Luis de Victoria, the greatest composer of the Spanish sixteenth-century ‘golden age’ of polyphonic music, was born in Avila in 1548 and died in Spain in 1611. In 1583, he published the "Missa O quam gloriosum" based on his joyous motet of the same name. The mass is his most popular and characteristically blends striking simplicity with a marvellous, measured intensity. The Sanctus and Benedictus are the choir's offering for this week's reflection.
Alison speaks of her daily discipline to reflect on a great painting or work of artwork – recently focussing on the often challenging portrayal of Christian saints, ahead of the feast of All Saints which we celebrate in church today.
We close with the rousing hymn "Ye watchers and ye holy ones".
