Oral Adjudication - Madrid WUDC Showcase Debate

We have assembled some of the circuit’s best debate pairings and judges for a showcase debate, featuring four team preps, a full debate, a deliberation and an oral adjudication. Details of the panel and all speakers are below!

Motion: THW apply universal jurisdiction to crimes against the environment

Debate result: 1st CO, 2nd CG (2-1 split), 3rd OO, 4th OG.

Chair - Joseph Lewis
Joseph is the CA of the Masters Tournament at WUDC 2023 and was the DCA of Doxbridge Worlds 2022. He was an open semifinal chair and open final panelist at EUDC 2022 and an ESL semifinal chair and ESL final panelist at EUDC 2021. He was a Doxbridge Worlds semifinalist and has chaired outrounds at 25 tournaments including LSE Open, Trinity IV, and Durham IV.

Panelist - Diego Duarte
Diego is a WUDC, CMUDE, Oxford IV and Doxbridge Worlds breaking judge, was on the CA teams on multiple regional Latin American Tournaments and was the chair of the CMUDE Open Final in 2020.

Panelist - Ruth Selorme
Ruth is a WUDC, WSDC, UADC, HWS IV, Doxbridge and Australs breaking judge, was on the CA team for Cornell Novice Nationals and Seattle IV, was Open Quarter finalist at Uhuru Worlds and won Habib Pre-WUDC 2022.

OG - Emery Taylor & Gwen Stearns:
Emery is a WUDC Grand Final panelist/Octofinal chair, an EUDC ESL Final panelist, an Oxford IV/LSE Open Semifinalist, and won tournaments including the Chicago Open, Erasmus Rotterdam Open, and Acropolis Open.
Gwen is an Octofinalist of Korea WUDC and finalist of the HWS IV 2021, and she has CAed NAUDC 2021 and North American Women and Gender Minorities Championship 2021.

*They debated together at the HWS Round Robin, Doxbridge Worlds, where they reached the Quarterfinal, and Aberdeen Queer Open, which they won.

OO - Sharuka Wikramanayake & Daniel Maier-Gant:
Sharuka is an Australs top-10 speaker and Open Semi-Finalist (Nepal 2021), and an Australs DCA (Campbelltown 2022).
Daniel is also an Australs top-10 speaker (Monash 2020) and DCA (Nepal 2021), and is a Chief Adjudicator of Vietnam WUDC 2024.

*They debated together at Korea WUDC 2021, reaching the Open Semi Final before being rudely ejected by the Ateneans. They have also been champions of numerous New Zealand majors (Joynt Scroll 2017, 2020, 2021, Officers Cup 2020, 2021), though never as teammates.

CG - Jessica Musulin and Lucy Murphy:
Jessica is the CA of Madrid WUDC 2023, was a DCA at Thailand WUDC 2020, and has been an Australs Champion and WUDC Quarter Finalist.
Lucy is a 6 time EUDC breaking judge having judged the Open Final in 2020, the ESL Final in 2022. She has won 10 competitions across IONA and Europe including Leiden Open 2020, Imperial Open 2020 and Riga Open 2017.

*The two debated together and won Glasgow Ancients 2022.

CO - Katharina Margareta Jansen & Lucie Slamova:
Katharina is an EUDC ESL Champion and Open Finalist in 2020, as well as having been the third best open speaker and part of the second open breaking team at Belgrade WUDC 2022. She has also won Leiden Open, Erasmus Rotterdam Open, and Cambridge WGM.
Lucie is an Oxford IV 2020 champion and Astana EUDC ESL finalist and Open PD-Quarterfinalist. She has won competitions including Imperial IV 2022, Trinity Open 2022 or LSE IV 2022. She has also judged the finals of Korea and Belgrade WUDCs, Zagreb EUDC and Oxford and Cambridge IVs 2022.

*They have debated together at Doxbridge 4, where they reached the final, and Liverpool IV, which they won.
