福島県の奥会津を東西に貫く只見線と「霧幻峡」をご紹介します。

訪れたのは夏真っ盛りの８月・・・日中との温度差で、朝・夕には川霧が立ちやすい時期です。

只見線は、新潟県の小出駅と福島県の会津若松駅を結んでいます。
2011年の新潟・福島豪雨により会津川口駅から只見駅間が不通となりましたが、
再開を望む多くの声を受け2022年に11年ぶりに全線開通されました。

小さなデーゼルカーが只見川沿いの深い緑や川霧の中を進む景観は、
鉄道ファンはもちろんのこと、一度は訪れてみたい絶景の秘境路線として有名です。
今回は只見線撮影ポイントの中でも一番人気の第一橋梁を望むポイントと、
無人駅の早戸駅を狙ってみました。

朝の一番列車は第一橋梁から・・・数日狙ってみましたが、
今回は川を覆いつくすような霧は発生しませんでした。
にわか仕立ての鉄道カメラマンには、「またいらっしゃい！」と
いうことなのかもしれません。
それでも、深い峡谷をトコトコ走る列車には
日本の原風景を感じさせてくれる充分な感動がありました。

次に、霧幻峡の渡しがある早戸駅周辺へ・・・
滞在中は渡し船の運行はありませんでしたが、
日が傾きかけてくると、どこからともなく霧が発生してきました。
水面に漂う霧は幻想的で、まさに「霧幻峡」と呼ぶような景色が出迎えてくれました。
夏セミが鳴く中、静かに変化する霧の流れを見ていると時間が経つのはあっという間。
気がつくとあたりは暗くなり、車のライトが目立つような時間帯になっていました。

早戸駅19時26分・・・川霧が漂う中、会津行きの最終電車を見送り、
汽笛の音を聞き終え、機材をしまい、撮影を終えたのでした。

The Tadami Line connects Koide Station in Niigata Prefecture and Aizu-Wakamatsu Station in Fukushima Prefecture.

The section between Aizu-Kawaguchi Station and Tadami Station was closed due to the heavy rains in Niigata and Fukushima in 2011, but due to widespread demand for reopening, the entire line reopened in 2022 for the first time in 11 years.

The view of the small diesel cars gliding through the deep greenery and river mist along the Tadami River is a sight not only for train enthusiasts, but also a renowned hidden line with breathtaking views that everyone should visit at least once.

This time, I aimed for the most popular Tadami Line photo spot, a view of the First Bridge, and the unmanned Hayato Station.

The first morning train departs from the First Bridge... I tried to capture it for a few days, but
this time, there was no fog that enveloped the river.
To a budding railway photographer, this may have been a "Come again!" moment.
Still, the train plodding through the deep gorge
was still an impressive sight, giving me a taste of Japan's pristine landscape.

Next, I headed to Hayato Station, where the Mugenkyo ferry is located...
The ferry was not running during my stay,
but as the sun began to set, fog began to form out of nowhere.
The fog floating on the water was fantastical, and I was greeted with a view that truly deserves the nickname "Mugenkyo."
Time flew by as I watched the fog quietly shift with the chirping of summer cicadas.
Before I knew it, it was dark and the car headlights were starting to stand out.

7:26 PM at Hayato Station... Amidst the drifting river mist, I saw off the last train to Aizu,
listened to the sound of the train whistle, packed up my equipment, and finished my shoot.
