How to make the Sun (or star) with atmospheric solar flare effect | Blender 2.8

This video is for blender 2.8. For later versions just follow the steps and adapt.

This method here consists of 3 easy steps: Create a star with procedural material, add some force fields and bake smoke domains driven by those force fields. The final step is some shading trickery to create a convincing illusion of motion and contrast. Repeat the same process for eruptions and the halo.

The anim in the beginning is a super low res render (and bake) with some postprocess (contrast, color grade).

I didnt pay too much attention to the procedural texture of the star itself. You can create stunning effects by adding and combining other animated noise and voronoi textures. Or, alternatively, you can use amazing 4k image textures. That was out of the scope of this tutorial.

Obviously, you can adjust these settings to your liking. You can create longer, crazier eruptions, stronger halo, more contrast and you know - the sky is the limit ! Also, color the star as you wish.
