Teleferique in Lebanon – Interesting Facts
• Opened in: 1965
One of the oldest still-operating cable cars in the Middle East, the Teleferique is a nostalgic experience for many Lebanese, passed down through generations.
• Route:
The cable car starts in the coastal city of Jounieh and climbs up to Harissa.
The ride takes about 9 minutes.
The distance is around 1.5 kilometers as the crow flies, but the elevation gain is quite steep – making the journey both scenic and exciting.
Harissa is one of Lebanon’s most important pilgrimage sites, located high above the bay of Jounieh.
It is home to the famous Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, where a large white statue of the Virgin Mary overlooks the sea and the surrounding mountains.
The peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking views make it a favorite spot for both locals and visitors.
