On the eve of Republic Day 2026, the government has announced the Padma Awards list featuring 131 citizens, with Dharmendra Singh Deol and former Kerala CM V. S. Achuthanandan was honoured posthumously with the Padma Vibhushan alongside K. T. Thomas, violin maestro N. Rajam and writer P. Narayanan. The Padma Bhushan list includes 90s playback icon Alka Yagnik, Malayalam superstar Mammootty, JMM founder Shibu Soren, former Uttarakhand CM Bhagat Singh Koshyari, tennis great Vijay Amritraj and banker Uday Kotak, while Padma Shri goes to cricket stars Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur, actor R. Madhavan, Bengali cinema legend Prosenjit Chatterjee and lesser-known heroes like free-library pioneer Anke Gowda, water conservation worker Mohan Nagar, para-athlete Praveen Kumar, 90-year-old tribal ‘Tarpa’ artist Bhiklya Ladkya Dhinda and Gujarat folk musician Mir Hajibhai Kasambhai.
