Located in the county of Gwynedd in North Wales is the town of Caernarfon.
The town fended off the Norman Invasion from William the Conqueror in the 11th century. However, around 200 years later, King Edward I successfully claimed the town during the Conquest of Wales between 1277 and 1283. He subsequently ordered the construction of the town walls and Caernarfon Castle overlooking the Menai Strait, which we see prominently in the video.
At the time of writing, Caernarfon holds the distinction of having the highest concentration of Welsh-speakers per capita of all communities in the country.
Just east of the castle is Castle Square. There are two statues found here. One features Sir Hugh Owen. Owen pioneered education in Wales in the 19th century, helping to establish may higher education institutions including Aberystwyth University. The other statue is of David Lloyd George. Lloyd George was the first Welsh-speaking prime minister of the UK, despite being born in Manchester. He took office in the middle of the First World War, in 1916, and served until 1922.
