Founded in 1925, Macroom Golf Club has been a long-standing fixture in Irish golf.
The entrance through the castle gate in the centre of the town leads you to an area steeped in history.
The course sits on the site of the 12th Century Castle Demesne.
Lady Olivia Ardilaun, a descendant of the McCarthy chiefs, and the widow of Lord Ardilaun, sold the castle demesne in 1924 to a group of local businessmen, to be held in trust for the people of the town.
(Incidentally Lord Ardilaun was also known as Sir Arthur Guinness and his great-grandfather's
stout can be sampled in the bar!)
The clubhouse also offers excellent restaurant facilities and a relaxed atmosphere before
and after your round of golf.
The course itself has two distinct nines. At 6,200 yards, the parkland course winds through the banks of the Sullane river, while taking golfers on a journey of rolling terrain in the shadows of the Kerry Mountains.
The front nine, with the Kerry mountains creating a stunning backdrop to the west, golfers cannot but be impressed by the peaceful beauty which surrounds them.
The back nine features the river Sullane and indeed water comes into on a number of holes.
The club has very active and friendly Ladies, Gents and Junior sections where everyone is welcome.
Macroom Golf Club is open for Membership, Visitors, Societies & Classics.
This piece of golfing heritage is ideally located just 30 minutes west of Cork City and 40 minutes east of Killarney.
