Two days of Tornado - The VSOE to Bristol and The Severn Valley Venturer - September 2016

Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th September saw a double bill of 60163 'Tornado', as she worked the 'British Pullman' to Bristol and the 'Severn Valley Venturer' to Bridgnorth, on the Severn Valley Railway. The first of four shots, she is seen just west of Bedwyn on the climb up to Savernake, looking superb with her rake of immaculate Pullman carriages in the late Summer sunshine. The return shot, should have been a panoramic looking across towards Woodborough Loops, this, however, was scuppered when we found out the fields were full of tall corn, blocking the view. So, instead, we settled for a shot from the footbridge which overlooks the loops themselves. With the sun only just on the right side, Tornado is seen speeding past, ready to tackle the east bound climb to Savernake.

Moving onto the second day now, and Tornado is first seen hurrying through Lapworth Station, on her way to Kidderminster, where she would join SVR metals to take the tour on to Bridgnorth. Now on the Severn Valley Railway, we see the A1 Pacific making steady progress with her 11 coach load up Eardington Bank, with a whistle for the crossing just the other side of the bridge. The return run of this tour was due to be handled by 34027 'Taw Valley', as far as Bewdley, where a Class 66 would take over for the run back to London. Problems with Taw Valley's air pump, required to work the air braked stock, meant she had to be failed and withdrawn. 50049 'Defiance' was sent up from Kidderminster to cover for her. We filmed Defiance at Orchard Crossing, bringing the tour back, although the performace wasn't what we'd hope it would be, so it hasn't been included.
