Be Content and Praise Allah; the Exalted

Sustenance is allotted and predetermined for every human being while in the womb of his mother. No one can snatch it away from him nor seize it because Allah ﷻ has guaranteed to take care of it. He ﷻ says: And in the heavens, there is your sustenance and all that you have been promised. [51:22] Therefore, each person attains his sustenance in full in the same manner Allah ﷻ has allotted it for him and will not leave the world before attaining it in its entirety.

Some people assume that sustenance is only wealth, but this is an incorrect understanding. For sustenance is everything Allah ﷻ has bestowed upon His servants whether it is materialistic or spiritual. Therefore, everything; minute or significant in a person’s life is termed as sustenance whereby he must show gratitude to Allah. He ﷻ says: (Remember) when your Lord declared, “If you express gratitude, I shall certainly give you more, and if you are ungrateful, then My punishment is severe.” [14:7]
