It's been a really long time since I posted a cover of a Salil Chowdhury composition.
This song was originally sung by Nirmala Mishra in 1963, and is somewhat of an outlier in Salil-da's oeuvre, in the sense that he did not both write the words and music, but only the melody, with lyrics by Pulak Banerjee. I do not know if this song came first, or maybe the Hindi version - yeh mere andhere from the film Prem Patra. But regardless of which came first, this is a song that has all of the unmistakable Salil-da touches, not just in the preludes or interludes, but throughout the very powerful melody, and with a sanchari that only a genius can come up with.
This is "E mon mor jaani na" by Salil Chowdhury, a song more than 60 years old today.
