How to Draw a Cartoon Dog - Character Design Tips & Tricks

Caution: children should use child-safe art supplies. Today, I'm going to show you the key points in drawing a dog or puppy character. I'm going to use some basic techniques, as well as some tricks, to demonstrate how you can change an ordinary cartoon into an original character - with personality.

We'll focus on sketching different shapes, proportions and lines for the major parts of the head, such as the forehead, bridge of the nose, flews (those upper lips with the whiskers) and back of the head. We'll combine these with expressive eyes, a nose that wedges into the front of the face, a compact mouth, and stylized ears. The neck is also used to create a specific look. For example, on this dog, the neck is sturdy, and widens out.
