Just me, my dog, and my Tundra heading into Arizona’s volcanic cinder fields for a quick overnight escape.

The Cinders OHV area is a massive volcanic cinder field formed by ancient eruptions, covered in deep black ash and loose terrain that feels nothing like the rest of Arizona. The soft cinders make for unique driving and camping, with pine forests, open views, and an almost other-worldly landscape. It’s one of the few places where you can experience true volcanic ground without leaving the state.

This Sidequest was all about slowing down, finding quiet places, and seeing how the truck handles loose volcanic terrain. No rush, no crowds — just camping off-grid, shooting content, and enjoying one of the most unique landscapes in Arizona.
