Polestar has revealed its coupe-style electric SUV at the Shanghai Auto Show, and as expected, the Polestar 4 is a head turner with a lot of power. It also has a pretty bold design choice: there's no rear window, so the driver's rear view is provided by a camera. The idea is to create "a new kind of immersive rear occupant experience," the company wrote in an announcement post for the new EV. The Polestar 4 has a sleek and sporty design (for an SUV) broken up by subtle body panel creases and mildly bulging fenders. The lack of a rear window is an odd decision, as it's bound to make the interior feel a bit... stuffy. the Polestar 4, the aim was to create an "SUV coupe," but not in the usual fashion. If you haven't followed the change in parlance in recent years, that's a crossover with a swoopy roofline and four doors. Such designs are often based on existing SUVs, sacrificing rear headroom in the process. Polestar avoided this with a clean sheet design that focuses on comfort for rear passengers. Polestar's fastest car yet. Maximum power output is 544 hp from the all-wheel-drive dual motor drivetrain, delivering a zero-to-60 mph sprint in under 3.8 seconds. Single-motor models will also be available in a rear-wheel-drive configuration, with 272 hp on tap. As is the way with EVs, aerodynamic efficiency was a primary driver of the design.
