The new lore around the Dark King, and the Terminus Decree, as well as the lore from Fulgrim: The Perfect Son, all lead me to the conclusion that we've been looking at the Emperor and the Golden Throne all wrong...backwards in fact. For it is now obvious that the Throne does not sustain him, it drains him...continually, in perpetuity. Anything less would mean the death of everything, and everyone.

Truly grimdark is the Warhammer 40K lore. And nothing is darker than the tragic fate of the Emperor of Mankind.
