I show how to install a child theme for Divi 5 in WordPress—step by step, in plain English. You’ll learn what a child theme is, why it matters, and exactly how to generate and activate one using a simple plugin.

A child theme lets you make safe edits—like CSS tweaks or template overrides—without touching the main (parent) theme. When Divi updates, your child theme customizations stay intact. That’s the whole point of creating a WordPress child theme before you start styling.

Here’s what we’ll do together:

👉 Understand the basics: what a child theme is and why you should use one with Divi 5.
👉 Open Plugins → Add New and search for “Child Theme Generator.”
👉 Install and activate the Generate Child Theme plugin.
👉 Go to the new Generate Child Theme tab in your WordPress dashboard.
👉 Select your parent theme (Divi 5) from the dropdown.
👉 Fill in the details: Child Theme Name, Description, Author, and Version.
