Mexican Day of the Dead Festival 2025 in London | Día de los Muertos | Part 1

Hi friends!

In this video, we are going to witness the Mexican Day of the Dead Festival 2025 in Ilford, East London, UK, organised by Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure and Redbridge Central Library. The town comes alive with a lantern and skeleton parade that starts outside the Kenneth More Theatre, moves through Ilford High Street, and returns to where it began. The festival is inspired by Mexico’s Día de los Muertos and celebrates life, love, and remembrance. Although it takes place around Halloween, it is not a Halloween event.

The video begins with traditional Latin American and Cuban music performed by Los Soneros, setting the perfect mood for the evening. As night falls, the parade illuminates the streets with colourful lanterns, glowing costumes, and giant puppets. Families, performers, and artists come together with music, dance, and art to celebrate community, creativity, and culture.

During the parade, you’ll see traditional symbols of Día de los Muertos, including La Catrina, the elegant skeleton who reminds us that death unites everyone; Calacas and Esqueletos, playful skeletons dancing through the streets to show that joy continues beyond death; and Mojigangas, giant puppets that bring colour, movement, and excitement to the celebration. These elements add cultural depth and make the parade a visually stunning and meaningful experience.

This Mexican festival is about honouring loved ones who have passed, sharing stories, and experiencing art and tradition in a joyful and inclusive way. Watching the parade lets you feel the energy and imagination that make the Day of the Dead Festival in London such a unique and memorable event.
