Rice seedlings are typically transplanted 25-45 days after sowing. Seedlings younger than 25 days are too delicate, while those older than 45 days can lead to yield reductions. Ideally, transplanting should occur when the seedlings are 15-20 days old and have 4-5 leaves.
Uproot seedlings carefully from the nursery and transplant them to the main field as quickly as possible to prevent drying out.
Transplant 2-3 seedlings per hill.
Plant seedlings at a shallow depth (2-3 cm) to promote proper tillering (formation of new shoots).
Maintain optimal spacing between hills (e.g., 20 cm x 20 cm or 22.5 cm x 22.5 cm).
Handle seedlings gently to ensure they establish well after transplanting.
For machine transplanting, seedling mats are often used.
