Here is how to replace kohler engine manual fuel pump with electric fuel pump. Just a small low flow electric fuel pump with a dedicated on off switch will allow you to control the fuel flow on and off, and run the carburetor bowl out of fuel to prevent gumming of the carb. The mannual overhead valve driven stock vacuum pump on these engines is known to be problematic, and in my case even bent the push rod on the engine. The electric fuel pump is so much better, and in this case of having the engine attached to a welder/generator it was a much better option than doing a vacuum driven fuel pump as is sometimes used on these.
