A little info about The Joy Boys:
Col Joye's backing band, The Joy Boys (formed in 1957), included his brothers pianist Kevin and bass player Keith. The rest of the lineup was lead guitarist Norm Day, rhythm guitarist Dave Bridge, saxophonist Laurie Erwin and drummer Johnny Bogie. The band backed Col Joye on his many hits, but they also released several of their own singles, many of which charted, especially in Sydney where nine made the Top 40 from 1960 to 1963. They also had several Top 40 entries in the other major capital cities. ''Smoky Mokes'' was their biggest hit, followed by ''Southern 'Rora'', an original instrumental in honour of the Southern Aurora, a new Sydney-Melbourne express train
The Southern Aurora train between Sydney and Melbourne was launched in 1962. It ran until August 1986. when it was superseded by The Sydney Melbourne Express.
