Colossians 2:16
16 So don’t let anyone pass judgment on you in connection with eating and drinking, or in regard to a Jewish festival or Rosh-Hodesh or Shabbat.
Some people believe that this verse encourages people to not have to follow in the Jewish traditions of eating Kosher and celebrating Shabbat (the Sabbath) and the Biblical Feasts.
But let’s look at what was happening when Paul wrote this.
Colosse was an ancient city located in what is now Turkey. Paul and other disciples brought the faith of Yeshua to the people there. These people were new converts and just starting to follow Yeshua which was Jewish practice at the time. These were new ideas for these formerly pagan people and Paul was encouraging them to not let their peers discourage them from following these Biblical traditions.
For some believers, sometimes our loved ones may think that keeping “Jewish” holidays are strange, but in fact they are biblical.
