Is there any reward in visiting the graves of one’s parents in Islam? How often should a Muslim visit graves, and what is the correct Islamic manner of doing so?
In this video, Sheikh Assim Al-Hakeem answers these important questions based on the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ initially discouraged grave visitation, but later permitted and encouraged it as it serves as a reminder of death and the Hereafter.
Sheikh Assim explains:
Whether visiting parents’ graves carries reward
The main purpose of visiting graves in Islam
How often one should visit without exaggeration
Common mistakes people make at graves
What benefits the deceased the most (duʿā’, charity, good deeds)
Visiting graves is not an act of worship by itself, but it is allowed and beneficial as a means of reflection and making duʿā’ for the deceased. However, Islam strictly prohibits acts such as seeking help from the dead, making tawāf around graves, or believing that frequent visits bring special blessings.
📌 Key Reminder:
The greatest gift you can give your deceased parents is sincere duʿā’, charity on their behalf, and righteous deeds, not excessive grave visits.
Watch this video till the end to learn the balanced Islamic approach and avoid innovations while still honoring your parents according to the Sunnah.
May Allah have mercy on our deceased and grant us beneficial knowledge. Ameen.
