Seoul Metro 4000 Series 1st Generation (4x22): Samgakji to Sadang.

This train features a Seoul Metro 4000 Series Batch 1 with GEC Alstom GTO-VVVF motor which runs on Line 4. Unfortunately, due to electrification differences, all 4000 Series with GEC Alstom GTO-VVVF & several 4000 Series with Mitsubishi GTO-VVVF are restricted between Jinjeop-Sadang & could not run all the way to Oido, which means they are only capable of running on the Jinjeop Line (aka Line 4 extension) & Metro Line 4, which means they are not able to run on the Korail Ansan & Gwacheon Lines, which are part of Line 4. Only Batch 1 Sets 51 to 71 (Set 51 was retired & replaced by a 3rd gen train) are able to handle both DC & AC overhead catenary while Sets 01-26 can only handle DC, which means they are capable of running the whole Line 4 including the Korail Ansan & Gwacheon Lines.

For example, this train (set 22) can only do service between Jinjeop & Sadang & could not run south of Sadang (though it’s capable of running till Namtaeryeong as the neutral section between AC & DC is located between this station & Seonbawi, however the turnback siding is located at Sadang station instead.

These 4000 Series (both DC & AC-DC sets) are in the process of retirement & are being progressively replaced by 3rd & 4th gen trains.
