Nikko's Irohazaka - Why This is Japan’s Ultimate Scenic Adventure Route

Thinking about driving the infamous Irohazaka Road in Nikko? 🚗 In this short video, we take you to the heart of Tochigi Prefecture to experience one of Japan’s most iconic mountain passes.

While Nikko City is famous for the UNESCO World Heritage Toshugu Shrine and temples, as well as the beautiful autumn colours, the Irohazaka road is famous for its 48 incredibly tight hairpin turns, which is really fun for drivers.

Irohazaka became famous as the winding mountain pass in Nikko served as a key location for races, particularly against Team Emperor, and was faithfully recreated in the Initial D manga, anime, and video games, known for its 48 sharp turns and scenic beauty, especially the iconic "jump" maneuver.

Actually, it’s not as scary as it looks on the map! We’ll share tips on how to enjoy this one-way downhill route and why you shouldn't miss the stunning views of Lake Chuzenji before you head down.
