2024 Bentley Batur Wraps Up Development Phase, Sets Course for Production

Bentley's extraordinary grand tourer, the coachbuilt Batur by Mulliner, has successfully concluded its comprehensive vehicle development program, ensuring that it adheres to the most elevated standards of performance and durability. Presently, the focus shifts towards the construction of customer cars, wherein each vehicle will showcase an exceptional level of personalized craftsmanship, taking approximately four months to meticulously handcraft. The final masterpiece is anticipated to be finished by the conclusion of 2024.

In continuation of the development process, two prototype vehicles, known as Car Zero and Car Zero-Zero, have been created. These prototypes exemplify the same impeccable craftsmanship as the forthcoming 18 customer cars. Car Zero exhibits a distinct bespoke exterior finish named Purple Sector, accompanied by front splitters, side skirts, and a rear diffuser, all boasting a high gloss natural fiber finish. The main matrix grille, finished in Gloss Dark Titanium, is adorned with contrasting chevrons in a horizontally graduated ombré pattern, transitioning from the vibrant Purple Sector at the center to the profound Black Crystal at the edges. The iconic 'endless bonnet' line and the 22" wheels, featuring spokes in Gloss and Satin Black Crystal, are elegantly finished in Satin Titanium.

Another development vehicle, Engineering Car Zero-Zero, exhibits the equally remarkable Marina Teal finish. These exclusive finishes, along with unique components like the one-off LED headlamp units, underwent rigorous durability tests, including a demanding 2,500 km European tour, high-speed trials on closed circuits, and prolonged exposure to harsh environments. In total, more than 800 distinct and one-of-a-kind components were subjected to testing and validation during an intensive 160-week development period.

As the most potent Bentley created thus far, the Batur derives its power from the renowned W12 engine, which traces its roots back to the 2003 Continental GT. The W12 engine has played a pivotal role in Bentley's rise to become the epitome of automotive luxury, continuously evolving to deliver increased power, refinement, and efficiency with each subsequent generation. With the advent of Bentley's journey towards full electrification, the W12 engine in the Batur represents both a tribute to this remarkable powertrain and its final swansong. Boasting a staggering peak output of 750PS, it stands as the most powerful W12 engine ever produced, consequently making it the mightiest powertrain in any Bentley. The engine underwent extensive development work spanning over 100 weeks, testing its new air intake system, modified turbochargers, revised intercoolers, and meticulously calibrated engine, transmission, and electronic stability control. The awe-inspiring performance of the engine is complemented by the most advanced Bentley chassis specification to date, featuring Speed-tuned air suspension, electric active anti-roll control, eLSD, four-wheel steering, and torque vectoring.

A new era of coachbuilding has emerged with the Batur, enabled by cutting-edge technologies utilized by Mulliner. These advancements provide customers with an unprecedented level of customization options in the modern automotive landscape. With the incorporation of sustainable materials like natural fibers and technologies such as Additive Manufactured Gold, Mulliner's designers now possess an almost boundless array of choices, allowing customers to realize their unique vision of the ultimate grand tourer. Every intricate detail, including the 18ct yellow gold options for the Charisma Dial and Organ Stop air vent control, has undergone meticulous development scrutiny, enduring a diverse range of tests ranging from thermal loading to resistance against sun cream.

Having successfully passed all trials with resounding success, the Batur is now poised to embark on the next phase of its journey. The complete allocation of 18 Batur vehicles has already been reserved by eager customers, who can now actively participate in the co-creation process, guided by Mull

iner's in-house design team. Following the selection of personalized color and finish options for virtually every surface of the Batur, each distinct vehicle will undergo a meticulous handcrafting process over the coming months at Mulliner's workshop, situated in Bentley's carbon-neutral factory in Crewe, England. With an estimated completion time of around four months per car, these exceptional grand tourers will soon grace the roads, embodying the fusion of luxury, craftsmanship, and individuality.
