Largest Tomato Producing Countries 1960 - 2025

From 1960 through 2025, the largest tomato-producing countries in the world have seen both growth in total output and shifts in rankings, but one country has consistently stood out: China, which by the early 21st century produced more tomatoes than any other nation by a large margin, often exceeding 60–70 million tonnes annually and accounting for over a third of global production by the 2020s. Following China, India has emerged as the second-largest producer, growing from much smaller mid-20th century figures to around 20 million tonnes per year by the 2020s, while Turkey, the United States, and Egypt have also remained in the top ranks of tomato output in recent decades. Overall, global tomato production has expanded tremendously since the 1960s—when worldwide figures were comparatively low—driven by rising demand and improved agriculture, with China and India leading the world in sheer volume through 2025.
