The Coureur de Bois is a 1000k brevet from Ottawa, Ontario east to Quebec City, Quebec along the Ottawa and St. Lawrence Rivers. Just I and one other fast rider (occasionally seen) from Ontario rode it this year, many other riders electing to ride the Granite Anvil 1200k, which traveled west from Ottawa a couple weeks later.
The ride is part of the Ottawa chapter of Randonneurs Ontario's brevets and it was my first experience with a ride of this length. It provided me with a better idea of what sitting in the saddle for multiple days might feel like.
I'm still pondering PBP next year, and this 71-hour finish will allow me to pre-register. The ride had no volunteer support. Rather, I was handed a brevet card and was on my own from there. I had some tendonitis (the saddle may have been a couple mm too high), one flat, a lousy hotel, days of rural riding, two ferry rides, great weather, and nice views of many rivers and streams.
The name "Coureur de Bois" refers to the French frontiersman fur traders of the 1600s that traded with indigenous peoples deep into North America by traveling by canoe deep into the woods and living in the Canadian wilderness.
This video is long, but that's ok. If you like this sort of thing, it's fine.
