Martial Arts Odyssey: Ultimate MMA Academy Feb. 2018 (Part 2)

In 2018, Brooklyn Monk Dr. Antonio Graceffo returned to the Ultimate MMA Academy in Johor Bahru, Malaysia to train with choach Cian Yik (Melvin Yeoh). Melvin and Antonio both fought in Mayhem II the largest MMA tournament ever held in Southeast East Asia. They met again during the filming of the TV show, Living the MMA Dream, at which point, Melvin invited Antonio to go live in the academy in Johor Bahru. Antonio wound up spending almost a year, sleeping on the mats, training full time, and fighting professionally.

UMA is a special place, the Patch Adams of MMA schools, where each member is both a teacher and a student. You teach where you are needed and learn from what is given. Brooklyn Monk helped the students with their boxing and Melvin Yeoh helped Antonio with Muay Thai. Antonio shared his Chinese wrestling and Melvin shared Brazilian Jujitsu. UMA will always hold a special place in the heart of The Monk.

Antonio Graceffo, PhD, China-MBA is the author of nine books about China and Southeast Asia. He has worked as a lecturer and as a program director of business education and research for joint venture universities in China. Antonio holds a PhD from Shanghai University of Sport, where he wrote his dissertation, in Chinese. In addition, Antonio received his China-MBA, from Shanghai Jiaotong University, and is currently completing a second PhD at School of Economics Shanghai University, specializing in China –US Trade, China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and Trump-China economics.
