In this video I talk about The Good, The Bad, And The UGLY!!! You will learn the best vocal exercises to help you; reduce vocal strain, increase your vocal range, easily access higher notes with ease and without strain, learn to sing more freely with more power, and achieve maximum vocal power without straining your voice!

To do all this, we use a vocal technique called SOVT - or "Semi-Occluded Vocal Tract" - one method of which is known as "Straw Singing", or "Straw Phonation". HOWEVER, this is NOT the only method of S.O.V.T. and is my LEAST favorite because it teaches you to NOT use your nasal resonance, which is very BAD! (why? because you get MORE range, power, clarity, and less strain when you allow your nasal resonance to do it's job!)
Like other SOVT methods and exercises, singing through a straw modifies how much air can escape your lungs, which creates air 'back pressure' and acoustic energy to be reflected backward from the lips, decompressing and helping the vocal folds (cords) vibrate more easily and freely, with less muscular effort - which is also known as 'tight cord closure'. You can use the straw method with success ONLY when you allow air to flow through your nasal cavity and allow that beautiful nasal resonance through.
