“You Are Appreciated” Documentary
• Jon Final Documentary
I support social justice work in my community by actively engaging in initiatives that bridge the gap between financial literacy and mental health, particularly in disenfranchised communities. Through my partnership with Stay Solid YMHBA Inc., I assist with upcoming calendar programs while also spearheading my own, such as “15 Mins of Fame.” My commitment to social justice extends to my mentorship and family engagement work, which began in 2017 with Goodprojects, where I led the Star Enterprise workforce development program. My relentless yet spiritual approach to this work isn’t just about fixing problems—it’s about instilling hope, discipline, and the belief that we can build our own systems of success. By focusing on financial literacy, mental health, and community engagement, I’m working to create the kind of structure and opportunities that were often missing for me and so many others. My inspiration for social justice work comes from my own rough upbringing in Washington, D.C., where I witnessed firsthand the effects of systemic inequality, financial instability, and the lack of structure for young Black men. Raised by a single mother, I learned early on the importance of resilience, but I also saw how easily people in my community could be left behind. As a former felon, I understand the barriers that come with trying to rebuild after a mistake, especially in a justice system that often denies second chances. This drives my passion for mentorship, financial literacy, and mental health advocacy—ensuring others have the support and opportunities I once struggled to find.I have a deep personal connection to the community I serve because I grew up in it. Raised by a single mother in Washington, D.C., I experienced the same struggles—systemic inequality, financial instability, and limited opportunities—that many in my community face today. As a former felon who fought to rebuild his life, I know firsthand the importance of second chances and the need for mentorship, structure, and financial literacy. My work is not just about service—it’s about giving back to the people and places that shaped me, ensuring others have the opportunities I once needed.By participating in the 6-month Black Justice Fellowship, I hope to deepen my impact by expanding my knowledge, resources, and network to better serve my community. My goal is to sharpen my advocacy skills, strengthen my initiatives in financial literacy and mental health, and connect with like-minded leaders committed to systemic change. I see this fellowship as an opportunity to collaborate, share insights, and build sustainable programs that provide long-term solutions for disenfranchised communities.
