What I Cover in This 100 Mile Review:
• Comfort over long distances compared to the Altra Lone Peak
• Cushioning and fatigue reduction on full-day hikes
• How I solved the tight fit issue by swapping in elastic lock laces
• Breathability concerns: why my feet sometimes felt hot in warmer UK weather
• Durability after 100 miles: outsole, midsole, and upper wear points
• My closing thoughts on whether the Olympus 2.75 is worth buying
Overall, I’ve found the Altra Olympus 275 to be one of the most comfortable trail running and hiking shoes I’ve owned. They provide excellent cushioning for long hikes, reduce foot fatigue, and perform well across a variety of conditions. The only downsides I noticed were some heat buildup in hot weather and potential creasing wear in the upper, but nothing that’s a dealbreaker.
If you’re considering these shoes for ultrarunning, thru-hiking, or backpacking, this 100-mile review should help you decide if they’re the right fit for you.
My Setup:
• Shoes: Altra Olympus 275
• Laces: Elastic Lock Laces (linked below)
• Socks: Darn Tough lightweight hiking socks
Pros:
✔️ Extremely cushioned & comfortable
✔️ Great for long hikes and full-day use
✔️ No heel slip or sore feet after 100 miles
✔️ Improved fit with elastic laces
Cons:
❌ Can run hot in warmer weather
❌ Slight tightness in the upper with the original laces
❌ Possible durability concern in crease areas
👉 If you’re interested in trying lock laces, I’ve left a link in the description—they made a big difference for me.
