Join me @outandaboutuktv on a captivating journey through the picturesque grounds of Lilleshall Hall, a magnificent 19th-century stately home nestled in the heart of Shropshire. Originally constructed in 1831 as a hunting lodge for the Duke of Sutherland, Lilleshall Hall stands as a testament to timeless elegance and rich history.
The estate’s roots trace back to the 12th century with the founding of Lilleshall Abbey around 1148, which became a prominent Augustinian house. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the land was granted to James Leveson in 1539.
The present Lilleshall Hall was built in 1831 under the guidance of the 2nd Duke of Sutherland and his wife, Duchess Harriet, who had a keen interest in architecture and landscape gardening. The estate features extensive grounds inspired by the renowned landscape architect Capability Brown.
In 1917, the Duke of Sutherland sold the estate, and by 1949, it was acquired by the Central Council for Physical Recreation, transforming it into a national sports center. Today, Lilleshall Hall seamlessly blends its historic charm with modern facilities, serving as a premier venue for weddings, events, and sporting excellence.
