[Solo Travel in Japan/Chapter Three Kyoto] 2# Arashiyama Walking Tour: Discover Kyoto's Bamboo Grove, Tenryu-ji Temple, The Kimono Forest and Semi-Wild Monkeys.
The movie I’m referring to can be found here, though there may be other versions available as well:
• The Legend of Bodhidharma: Master of Zen |...
The video will showcase the following tourist attractions:
Arashiyama Kimono Forest
Tenryu-ji Temple
Bamboo Forest (Arashiyama Bamboo Grove)
The Togetsu-kyo Bridge
Arashiyama Monkey Park (Iwatayama Monkey Park)
The Katsura River
In this video, I will also provide a brief overview of Bodhidharma. At the end, you’ll see the Daruma doll. Daruma is a traditional handmade wishing doll from Japan and one of the country’s most popular good luck charms. It symbolizes the meditation of Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism. The doll’s round shape represents resilience, embodying the saying, 'Fall seven times, get up eight.' (Note: The dolls themselves don’t actually move.) Daruma dolls are typically made from papier-mâché, and red is the traditional color associated with them."
If you're interested in Zen Buddhism, there's another film that explores how Zen traveled from China to Japan. This movie focuses on the life and teachings of the renowned Buddhist Zen master, Dōgen Zenji ("Zenji" is an honorific Japanese Buddhist title meaning "Zen master").
• FILM: Zen, The Life Of Zen Master Dogen
(Note: While the video may not be 100% historically accurate, it offers a general overview of the life of a Zen monk in Japan.)"
