Fuel cell buses go next-gen: Ballard FCmove-SC presented at Busworld

Fuel cell electric buses are moving beyond pilot programs into growing commercial fleets, offering rapid refuelling, long range, and consistent performance in all weather. At Busworld Europe 2025 in Brussels, Ballard Power Systems launched its new-generation transit fuel cell module, the FCmove®-SC, designed to reduce integration complexity, improve in-service performance, and lower lifecycle costs toward diesel parity.

The FCmove®-SC builds on Ballard’s market-leading FCmove® family with key improvements:
25% higher volumetric power density with integrated DC/DC packaging
25% higher maximum radiator outlet temperature for simplified thermal management
40% fewer parts, reducing maintenance and diagnostics
Optimized peak power (≥75 kW) for consistent performance and better efficiency

The module also introduces enhanced safety features, predictive maintenance with FCServiceCloud, and insights from Ballard’s proven field experience with over 850 vehicles in Europe. Designed for city transit duty cycles, the FCmove®-SC aims to narrow the total cost of ownership gap with legacy diesel buses.
