This Scottish traditional song was written by the great Scottish poet Robert Burns in 1791
Lyrics:
Ye banks and braes o' bonnie Doon (You banks and hillsides of river Doon)
How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair (so fresh)
How can ye chaunt, ye little birds (chant)
And I sae weary, fu' o' care (...so weary, full of..)
Ye'll break my heart, ye warbling bird (You'll)
That warbles on the flow'ry thorn
Ye mind me o' departed joys (You remind me of...)
Departed never to return
Oft ha'e I roved by bonnie Doon ( I have often roved....)
By morning and by evening shine
To hear the birds sing o' their loves
As fondly once I sang o' mine
Wi' lightsome heart I stretched my hand (With light heart)
And pu'd a rose-bud from the tree (plucked a rose-bud)
But my fause lover stole the rose (false lover)
And left, and left the thorn wi' me
