Dregs One heads to Thrasher's Hunter Point office to talk with its president, Tony Vitello, about the world-famous skateboarding media company's roots in San Francisco. Since Thrasher's beginnings in 1981, the brand has helped push skate culture forward and represented San Francisco skating to a worldwide audience. As street skating came into prominence in the 90s, SF skate spots like the Embarcadero, Wallenberg, and Hubba Hideout laid the blueprint for what skate parks would like like for years to come. Jake Phelps, Thrasher's editor-in-chief for 26 years, also helped push the San Francisco attitude into the limelight until his passing in 2019. Today, the magazine has adapted to the digital age but continues to stay grounded in its roots of San Francisco street skating.
