Tim Brown has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly SLO), and a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University. Tim’s journey towards obtaining his engineering degrees started in junior college at Solano Community College where he received an associate’s degree in math and science. Tim did really well prior to attending Cal Poly so he was confident about starting the engineering program. However, Tim did not do well on his first programming class exam and ended up failing the class! At that point, he started to question himself and his ability to get through engineering school for a number of reasons. Tim did not express what was going on to anyone until he befriended a fellow classmate and got involved with the National Society of Black Engineers for support. Tim’s advice to engineering students, “Don’t go at it alone. Find some key support…and that support will help get you through.” #StayWithIt #Perserverance #ElectricalEngineering #STEM
