"Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer…"
In chorus battles, opposing teams vie for supremacy in a contest of skill and passion. In such a competition, it is easy to view one's team members as prized allies and the opposing groups as mortal enemies--but to what end? The lyrics of "Impossible Dream" attempt to explore the true meaning of friend or foe. At the outset, the protagonist regards other teams as challengers to be defeated, but this mindset evolves through the course of the song. Ultimately, he realizes that all participants are allied in the same struggle for self-improvement. And to succeed, one must overcome not the opposing teams, but the enemy within ourselves.
