Gentle Village Walk in the Heart of the Wolds | BRANTINGHAM, ENGLAND.

On this walk we visit the small but beautiful village of Brantingham in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England.

Situated approximately 12 miles west of Hull city centre, the village lies nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds at the bottom of Brantingham Dale. The village takes its name from the noble family of Brantingham (or de Brantingham) who once lived here. the family included such important figures as Ralph de Brantingham, King's Chamberlain to King Edward III, and Thomas de Brantingham, Lord Treasurer under the same king and later Bishop of Exeter.

Brantingham has a war memorial which was put up in 1922 for Sir John and Lady Sherburn. It was constructed in 1912 from reclaimed material after the demolition of Hull Town Hall. The names of fourteen young men who died during World War One are inscribed on a bronze plaque. The memorial has been described as "one of the most lovably awful things in the East Riding".

The picturesque 12th Century All Saints Church was designated a Grade II* listed building in 1966.
