From a neurobiological perspective, your mood, level of motivation and happiness involve neurotransmitters, neuromodulators and hormones in your brain and body. I am going to discuss the 3 of most relevant ones here: Serotonin, Dopamine and Oxytocin.
The neurotransmitter, serotonin, helps us to be happy and regulate our mood and appetite and sleep.
The neuro modulator, dopamine, helps us feel motivation and pleasure among other things.
And, the hormone, Oxytocin helps us feel loved, bonded and connected to others.
Now there are other neurotransmitters, and modulators and hormones, but the three I mentioned are of central importance to maintaining our mood, motivation and overall happiness.
