OVERALL REVIEW *
I arrived on both days before the gates opened and didn't have any issues at check-in.
The bag inspectors were nice enough to let me keep my 2 apples on both days (yes, I know... apples) after I mentioned to them that there is no fruit on site, so that was a decent start.
The line-ups at the water-stations weren't "as bad" as last year, however, they could do with adding a few more stations. Then again, to avoid the line-ups you can always fork over the eye-bleeding $6.50-per-bottle charge for water at the concession stands.
As usual, security, safety, and grounds-keeping was on point, and a special shout-out should go out to the entire support staff for keeping 30,000 + patrons in check.
CARDI B *
So, they reportedly spent upwards of $500,000 to have Cardi B perform... and, she was on stage for... 20 minutes??
Way to blow 500k guys :)
THE MUSIC *
Some have been complaining that VELD has been including far too much Hip Hop & other non-EDM music at the festival.
Here's my take on this after going to festivals such as VELD for almost 30 years:
Running a music festival is a business. And just like any business, if you don't run where the money goes, you will find yourself without a business to run.
Sure, I would like more Trance at VELD, and I don't think it would hurt to have at least 1 full-on Trance set by at least 1 DJ. I also think there are some folks who would like to see more "pure" House on the main stage instead of it being relegated to the smaller stages. However, my opinion is just that: It's 1 opinion.
Considering that the costs to run an event like this are staggering, what I think Charles Khabouth & Company should/could do before VELD 2020 is send out a survey to their entire massive mailing list, and ask their customer-base what genres they would like to hear at Veld, and let their demographic have some input on a large scale as to which genres are showcased at VELD 2020.
Anyway, that's my take.
And that's it for now.
See you next year.
