I compare three DeWALT 60V chainsaws head-to-head: DCCS674 (14"), DCCS670 (16"), and DCCS677 (20"). All three chewed through a 12" old hardwood log, but the 16" (DCCS670) ended up as my favorite for everyday use.
What I tested
• Cut performance on a 12" seasoned log (not fresh green wood)
• Weight, balance, and power draw (larger bar = heavier + more battery)
• Chain tensioning + maintenance differences
• Transport/kit differences (sheath vs case)
Key takeaways
• *All three work.* The 14" is lighter and handled more than expected.
• *DCCS670 (16") wins overall* for me: best size/power balance and **tool-free chain tensioning**.
• *DCCS677 (20")* is a beast but overkill/heavier for my typical jobs; needs tools for chain tensioning.
• *DCCS674 (14")* is the lightest; also needs tools to tension the chain.
• Triggers/safeties differ slightly (finger vs thumb actuator) but neither is a deal-breaker.
• Transport: the 20" includes a case (nice), but the bar still sticks out—mine even arrived with a bent bar in shipping.
