Ocean Of Compassion Live Video

This video of "Ocean of Compassion" was filmed during Shantala’s live kirtan performance at Mandala Sanctuary in Eugene, Oregon on October 27, 2024.

"Ocean of Compassion" comes from verses 4-5 of a hymn called Shiva Manasa Puja. It is said to have been composed by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. Beautiful, uplifting, and devotional, this hymn creates a sacred space for the listener to inhabit.

With that in mind and heart, we want to offer it to you as an invocation for the New Year in 2025.

The video features vocals and harmonium by Heather Wertheimer, bansuri bamboo flute by Steve Gorn, and keyboards by Benjy Wertheimer. Other band members pictured are Luna Rain, Kristin Wheary, and Sean Frenette.

It was filmed by Elijah Hasan with assistance from Anthony Beavers.

Pūjā Te Viṣayopabhogaracanā Nidrā Samādhisthitiḥ
Sañcāraḥ Padayoḥ Pradakṣina Vidhiḥ Stotrāni Sarvā Giro
Yadyatkarma Karomi Tattadakhilam Śambho Tavārādhanam

Karacaraṇakṛtam Vāk Kāyajaṃ Karmajaṃ Vā
Śravaṇanayanajaṃ Vā Mānasaṃ Vāparadham
Vihitam Avihitaṃ Vā Sarvam Etat Kṣamasva
Jaya Jaya Karunābdhe Śrīmahādeva Śambho

You are my very Self! Parvatī is my mind! My five prāṇas are Your attendants! My body is Your abode! All the delights and pleasure of my senses are as offerings to be made in Your worship! My sleep is Your state of samādhi! Wherever I walk, I am circumambulating You! Everything that I say is said in praise and adoration of You! Every action that I perform is done as an act of devotion to You! O Śambu, Benevolent Lord of Happiness!

Whatever negative actions I may have committed—with my hands, feet, voice, body, actions, ears, eyes, or mind, whether they are prohibited or not—may it please You to patiently and graciously forgive them all!

All praise, all victory to You, who are the very Ocean of Compassion, O Great God, O Benevolent Lord of Happiness!
