Solid oil or grease is a lubricant made by solidification of medium viscosity industrial oil with calcium soaps of higher fatty acids. Its operating temperature is up to 70°C. Compared to lithium lubricants, it is more stable to water and is therefore used mostly in equipment operated in humid conditions, such as agricultural machinery.

Grease can be made of fat (made with fatty acids of vegetable origin) or synthetic, with synthetic fatty acids. The former are better quality. Their appearance is identical and both kinds can be mixed without problems.
Grease is used not only for lubrication of machines and equipment, but also for other purposes; for instance, grease can be used in gardening for cleft grafting and tree trimming.

Much of the grease production time is taken by mixing of ingredients. A limitation of current mechanical mixing is the duration of the reactions between the ingredients and their dispersion, as well as uneven mixing, which causes overuse of ingredients. Using the AVS for the mixing process offers a range of benefits:

Reduction of saponification process duration, making the current process of several stages continuous, simplification of the process, reduction of equipment footprint and power consumption. Due to a more complete saponification reaction, as much as 15-20% of the costly ingredients can be saved.

The process of continuous grease production in the AVS includes the following equipment:

Ingredient containers to load the ingredients into and heating to the proces temperature, a quadruplex plunger unit for soft control of the production rate within 0.5-2.5 m3/hour and high precision of regulating the ratio of ingredient streams into the AVS and the product vessel without the use of complex control devices.

For better visualization we prepared and mixed grease in a 1 liter lab container, using the following ingredients to make one liter of the product:
C20 fraction fatty acids, industrial oil, and 26% oil-lime suspension.

200 grams of ferromagnetic elements were loaded into the container. The industrial oil and fatty acids were heated to 85-90°С before mixing. We added lime into the heated oil and mixed for several seconds, then left the grease to settle for 24 hours.
