Wounds are usually caused by cuts, tears or scrapes. A minor wound, such as an abrasion (scrape), means there is only a minimal amount of bleeding and the wound is superficial. Mild bleeding can always be stopped within 15 minutes by direct pressure to the wound. A major wound has severe bleeding involved, possibly an embedded object, or deep destruction of the tissue.
Apart from the blood loss, you should also be managing the risk of infection, which can be caused by germs or cross-infection with you. In addition due to the loss then oxygenated blood may not effectively reach your vital organs and cause the condition of medical shock.
