The song, by Terry Knight, is about his fears that the Beatles may split up after meeting Paul about Apple Records. Initial copies where recalled after a cease and desist from MacLen, The Beatles music publisher for interpolation of various Beatles tunes. It was later rereleased with the song being published under MacLen, the only non-Beatles song to do so. This song became famous after the rumor of Paul's death, not helped by it being published by The Beatles company. It had reached the top 40 in some states. The most famous version is the one by New Zealand singer Shane, with "Saint" Paul McCartney even sending a telegram congratulating him for his success. After being manager-producer for Grand Funk Railroad, Terry was stabbed to death by his daughter's boyfriend in 2004, age 61.
