Cinereous Vultures (Aegypius monachus), also known as Monk Vulture or Black Vulture, are the largest old world vultures with a distribution from Portugal and Spain in the west to South Korea in the east, spanning the entire old world. These birds are huge: adults can weigh up to 14 kilo (31lbs) and can have a wingspan of over 3 meters (9 feet). As other vultures, Cinereous Vultures are too slow to hunt live prey, they feed on carrion, with an apparent preference for larger mammals. The vultures will also eat human corpses, especially corpses used in sky burials in Tibet.
The species has declined seriously, mostly because of eating poisoned bait and the reduced availability of carrion, they no longer breed in Northern Africa, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Albania and Israel.
Cinereous vultures are common visitors at vulture restaurants in their habitat as is the individual in the video.
