The old palace in a normal playthrough is supposed to be the third level, so the combats are a bit dangerous. Also a lot of enemies can use a sleep spell that need to be avoided at all cost.
During the first floor the goal is to move half of the cristals before opening the windows, in order to go in each room only once. Then, it is to get a good axe and armor for the dwarf in order to beat the too high level boss. The fairy speed boost is used on rogue to speed up long walks.
